Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how Leafwise Studio handles information when you use the LinguaLeaf Android application, the LinguaLeaf support pages, and related services.
LinguaLeaf is designed as an offline-first reading application. It does not require a Leafwise Studio account and does not include advertising or a behavioral advertising system.
Information stored on your device
LinguaLeaf may store app information locally on your device, including:
- imported EPUB books and associated library information;
- reading position, reader settings, and app preferences;
- installed or downloaded language models;
- language-pack ownership status received from Google Play;
- text-to-speech preferences; and
- temporary operational data needed for app features.
Leafwise Studio does not operate a cloud library that receives copies of your imported books or reading history.
Android backup
Android may back up eligible application data according to your device, Google account, operating-system settings, and Android backup rules. Leafwise Studio does not directly control Google's device-backup service.
Translation
LinguaLeaf uses Google ML Kit translation components. Translation models may be downloaded to your device. After the applicable model is installed, supported translation is intended to be performed on the device.
Model downloads and related Google services may process technical network information needed to deliver the model and operate the service.
Text-to-speech
LinguaLeaf uses Android's text-to-speech framework and the TTS provider installed or selected on your device. Voice availability, downloads, and processing behavior depend on that provider and your device settings.
Project Gutenberg
When you use LinguaLeaf to search for or import a Project Gutenberg book, the app connects to external book and metadata services. Those services may receive ordinary technical request information such as your network address, request details, and browser or client information.
Project Gutenberg and related external services operate under their own policies and are not controlled by Leafwise Studio.
Google Play purchases
Optional language-pack purchases are processed by Google Play. Google handles payment credentials and transaction processing under Google's policies.
LinguaLeaf receives product details, offer information, purchase state, and product ownership information needed to display prices, complete purchases, acknowledge completed purchases, unlock content, and restore eligible purchases.
Leafwise Studio does not receive your full payment-card information from Google Play.
Discount-code validation
When you choose to submit a discount code, LinguaLeaf sends the normalized code and the application's package name to Leafwise Studio's validation service over HTTPS.
The validation request does not include a Leafwise account, imported book text, reading history, payment-card information, or the contents of your library.
The service may process ordinary technical request information, including network address, request time, and security or diagnostic logs needed to operate and protect the service.
Notifications and foreground playback
LinguaLeaf may request notification permission so Android can show text-to-speech playback controls while reading continues in the background. Notification permission is used for that app functionality and not for advertising.
Support communications
If you email Leafwise Studio, we receive the address, message, attachments, and other information you voluntarily provide. Support correspondence may be retained as reasonably necessary to answer requests, troubleshoot problems, maintain business records, prevent abuse, and satisfy legal obligations.
Website and service infrastructure
Leafwise Studio uses service providers to operate its website, email, domain, security, app distribution, payment, and related infrastructure. These may include Cloudflare, Google, Gmail, Brevo, Google Play, and services built into Android.
Those providers may process technical, transactional, security, or communications information within their respective roles and under their own terms and privacy policies.
Information sharing
Leafwise Studio does not sell personal information. Information may be disclosed to service providers when reasonably necessary to operate, secure, support, distribute, or maintain LinguaLeaf and related services. Information may also be disclosed when required by law or necessary to protect rights, safety, users, or services.
Data retention and deletion
Local app information can generally be removed by deleting books or language models within the app, clearing LinguaLeaf's app data through Android settings, or uninstalling the app.
Purchase records are maintained by Google Play according to Google's policies and applicable legal requirements.
LinguaLeaf does not create a Leafwise Studio user account, so there is no LinguaLeaf cloud account to delete. To request deletion of support correspondence or other information held directly by Leafwise Studio, email [email protected]. Some records may be retained where legally required or reasonably necessary for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or business records.
Security
Leafwise Studio uses reasonable administrative and technical safeguards. Network requests operated by Leafwise Studio are intended to use encrypted HTTPS connections. No storage or transmission system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Children's privacy
LinguaLeaf is a general-audience reading tool and is not specifically directed to young children. Leafwise Studio does not knowingly use LinguaLeaf to collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law.
International users
Information processed by service providers may be handled in countries other than the country where you live, subject to those providers' infrastructure and applicable law.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when LinguaLeaf, its service providers, or legal requirements change. The effective date will be revised when an updated policy is published.
